Hi, I’m April the owner and creative behind Amuse Events.
Writing about yourself is one of the most awkward things to do. Suddenly you begin to reflect a bit and start to wonder, “What is interesting about me? What are my hobbies? Why does anyone care?”
This is where I sit and stare at the computer contemplating what to type next.
There are several things that I know for certain about myself: having fun is an important part of my everyday life, I smile more than I don’t, and when it comes to parties I love to be extra!
I measure my success based on how I have exceeded my client’s expectations. There is a certain rush I experience when I hear a client talking about one of the tiny details I created for an event. I feel a level of vindication that immediately justifies my staying up until 2 a.m. working on those details. I spend a good amount of time on the larger “Wow!” installations but those are the obvious ones that everyone notices. I LOVE to overhear someone mentioning the tiny, yet equally important details that tie an event together.
The first party I ever hosted was when my best friend was turning 13. I decorated my room, hung streamers from the ceiling, and invited 15 of our friends to wait and surprise her. She knew, of course; 13 year-olds aren’t always the best secret keepers! Six years later, my other best friend got married and I hosted her bridal shower. At this shower I incorporated several memorable pieces that people who attended still bring up years later (nothing I would put in writing, but if you ask me in person I will tell you)!
Fast forward to when I had my first child on my birthday. (Yes, you read that correctly, I share a birthday with my daughter!) I knew we would have epic parties that would be fun for both children and adults. After our first pink lemonade themed joint birthday party seven years ago, I realized I was onto something. Attendees of all ages had so much fun they didn’t want to leave. This is when acquaintances began asking for my help with their events. It hit me that I could actually turn my passion into a career (corny but true). Three years later, Amuse Events was born!
